Serbia achieves 27.6 billion dinars budget surplus by mid-year, exceeding plan by 81.5 billion dinars

As of the end of June 2024, Serbia’s state budget recorded a surplus of 27.6 billion dinars, exceeding the budget plan by 81.5 billion dinars. The plan had anticipated a deficit of 53.9 billion dinars, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Revenue collection for the period totaled 1.06 trillion dinars, while expenditures amounted to approximately 1.04 trillion dinars, as reported by the Beta agency.

In June alone, the surplus reached 35.7 billion dinars. Total revenue for the month was 217.7 billion dinars, with tax revenues contributing 203.8 billion dinars. Significant tax revenues included 83.1 billion dinars from profit tax, coinciding with the deadline for 2023 final tax payments. Value-added tax (VAT) receipts were 74.4 billion dinars, and excise duties totaled about 28.6 billion dinars. Non-tax revenues were 12.9 billion dinars, and donations received amounted to 1 billion dinars.

June’s budget expenditures were 182 billion dinars, including:

  • Capital expenditures: 46.8 billion dinars
  • Employee salaries: 40.3 billion dinars
  • Social insurance transfers: 25.5 billion dinars
  • Social protection: 15.5 billion dinars
  • Subsidies: 14.4 billion dinars
  • Goods and services: 14.2 billion dinars

For the first half of the year, the budget achieved a fiscal surplus of 33.2 billion dinars and a primary fiscal surplus of 131.8 billion dinars.
