Vladimir Lučić, the general director of Telekom Srbija, recently visited Pristina to advocate for the allocation of a frequency range for the development of a 5G mobile network and to secure a license for operations throughout Kosovo and Metohija. Lučić expressed confidence that Telekom would emerge victorious, enabling it to distribute both 4G and 5G networks.
He warned that if Telekom does not receive the necessary license, the company will pursue compensation from the interim Pristina administration and from two local operators. “Common sense should prevail,” Lučić stated, emphasizing that any arrangement favoring those operators could violate European regulations.
During his visit, Lučić aimed to highlight to international representatives the rights and challenges Telekom faces in Kosovo and Metohija. He underscored the importance of informing local embassies about how the Pristina administration is allegedly violating its own laws and discriminating against Telekom.
Lučić noted significant progress since attempts to shut down Telekom in August, describing the current phase as an offensive to secure a third license for comprehensive service provision in the region. He expressed optimism that authorities and international stakeholders would grant the operating license, thereby improving the quality of Telekom’s mobile network.
He also pointed out that the Pristina regulator’s recent decision to allocate frequencies for the 5G network appeared timed ahead of February’s elections. Lučić stated, “If they were to allocate frequencies to those Pristina operators, it would likely hinder our chances as a third operator. However, our diplomatic efforts have extended this process over the past eight months.”
Lučić reiterated that international representatives have consistently supported Telekom Srbija when the Pristina administration has breached its own regulations.
