The balance sheets of insurance companies increased to EUR 2.9 billion

The balance sheet of the insurance sector increased to EUR 2.9 billion, i.e. by 2.2 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, the National Bank of Serbia announced in the regular report of the Sector for Supervision of Insurance Activities.

The NBS draws attention to the fact that the structure of the total premium in the first quarter of this year has been somewhat changed compared to the same period last year.

“Namely, the largest participation in the total premium is still recorded by liability insurance due to the use of motor vehicles with 27.4 percent, followed by life insurance with 20.1 percent and property insurance with 19.8 percent.”

However, in the observed period, voluntary health insurance, with 11.1 percent of the total premium, for the first time recorded a higher share than motor vehicle insurance – casco (10.2 percent),” the NBS noted in the report. The non-life insurance premium in the first quarter of 2023 recorded a growth of 16.7 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

“At the same time, the liability insurance premium due to the use of motor vehicles recorded a growth of 20.3 percent, the property insurance premium 6.5 percent, the voluntary health insurance premium as much as 40.8 percent, and the motor vehicle insurance premium – casco 17.3 percent” , it is stated in the NBS report on insurance activity.

When it comes to ranking, according to the criterion of total premium, the largest insurance companies in the first quarter were Dunav, Generali, Wiener, DDOR and Triglav. Dunav and Generali are the leaders according to the non-life insurance premium criterion, while Generali and Wiener are the first according to the life insurance premium criterion.

In the first quarter of this year, the same number of insurance companies operated on the domestic marketas in the same period in 2022 – 20 of them, 15 of which are majority foreign owned.
