The sooner Serbia advances towards the EU, the faster its neighbours in the region will follow- Djelic

Serbia`s Deputy Prime Minister for European integration Bozidar Djelic yesterday in Vienna voiced his expectation that in the weeks to come, the Netherlands will ratify the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia.

Djelic, who is attending the World Economic Forum on Europe and Central Asia in Vienna, told Tanjug news agency that the Dutch Parliament has not refused to ratify the SAA, but that it is simply following its regular procedure.

The regular procedure envisages that in the days ahead, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Uri Rosenthal presents a report which Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz had already submitted to the UN, as well as a recommendation by the Dutch government, he explained.

Djelic observed that on 20 June a discussion will be held at the level of EU foreign ministers about the situation in Serbia following the arrest of Hague indictee Ratko Mladic, while on 30 June the Dutch Parliament’s European Committee will hold its regular session.

He underlined that the sooner Serbia advances towards the EU, the faster its neighbours in the region will follow, voicing his pleasure at the neighbourly support to Serbia on its EU path.
