– We signed a contract for 30 trams and it’s been twenty years since the last purchase of new trams for Belgrade. From September, we are expecting a delivery of new trams in the series, four trams each month – Nikolic said.
New low-floor trams will be made of five joint constructions of a modern design by the highest international standards, the length of 33.1 meters and a width of 2.3 meters. The maximum speed it can develop is 60 kilometers per hour. They are equipped with special air-conditioning for the passenger section of the vehicle and for the cabine of the driver and a special room for disabled people and baby strollers. One vehicle has 72 seats plus six convertable seats and the maximum number of passengers is 242.
In addition to thirty trams, the contract includes supply of spare parts, special tools, and training of personnel, transport and cost control. Acquisition of new trams is part of the Belgrade Reconstruction Project, financed from the European Investment Bank and the city budget.
Nikolic said that the GSP was leading negotiations with the founder, the city of Belgrade, to sign a new contract by the end of February for the purchase of 250 new buses. The first 100 vehicles should be delivered in the second half of 2011 and the remainder by the end of next year.
